Repairs, Servicing & Upgrades

As mentioned, I am able to carry out Repairs, Servicing and Upgrades on a vast range of devices. Please find below the key areas I carry out repairs and upgrades in. If your device does not fit into one of the below categories, please contact me to see if it is something I can help with.

Laptops

Repairs

Whether it be physical damage that needs to be repaired, or a fault has developed, I have experience in all natures of repair needed to get your machine back up and running. I use high quality parts from reputable suppliers where possible, but can always find alternative solutions for lower budgets, or specialist equipment, and have access to many of the latest software tools for correcting non-hardware faults. I'll always offer honest advice on the best courses for repair (or replacement) giving all the information you need to decide which route you'd like to go down. No matter the brand, or type of machine, I'll do what I can to get it up and running again.

Servicing

Prevention is always better than a cure. This is no different with your laptops. As machines age, problems can arise, many of which can be avoided. Heat is a huge killer of Laptops, and this damage is usually avoidable. Over years of use, the cooling systems on laptops suck in dust and clog, not to mention the degradation of the thermal compounds. This is why any machine that comes to me gets the cooling system cleaned, and thermal compound replaced. Not only this, but keeping on top of updates and correcting software issues early on can prevent issues down the line. Even if your laptop isn't showing a current fault, get in touch to find out what service options would be available to you.

Upgrades

As laptops get older, their hardware becomes somewhat obsolete. Often laptops have many routes for upgrades to help them cope with modern tasks, years after they were made. This may be making the machine itself faster or more responsive, increasing the storage of the machine, or improving how it handles multitasking. Common upgrades such as SSD, storage and RAM can be easily arranged, however, I recommend all machines are booked in for an assessment before deciding on any upgrades to be carried out. This allows me to give honest advice for getting the best results from any upgrades, as well as if upgrading your current unit is the best option for you and your device.

When getting in touch regarding your laptop, please ensure you include; The make, the model (if you can find it it), the approximate age of the machine, a comprehensive description of the fault, or the service / upgrade you want carried out, and any specifications of the laptop you feel would be helpful.

If after your first contact I don't have all the information I need, I'll get back to you confirming any specifics before getting the job booked in.

Desktop PCs

Repairs

Although slightly less complex, Desktop PCs are susceptible to hardware failures in a very similar way to laptops, however the availability of parts is often much better as more of the components in a desktop are universal. This can mean a viable repair is more likely given the reduced complexity of most desktop PCs, and the modularity of components. There are some exceptions to this, however, my suppliers can provide me with quality parts, to suit most repairs and budgets. I will always endeavour to present you with honest options, and guidance on which route you may be best going down, whether this is a repair, a temporary solution, or replacing the unit with a new, or refurbished system.

Servicing

As with laptops, often issues can be prevented before they become a problem through proper maintenance and servicing of your desktop PC. Although a tower generally deal with it's generated heat much better than a smaller device (such as a laptop) can, they can still take on large quantities of dust, along with thermal compound degrading. This problem can be accelerated when machines are sat on carpet, or in a dusty environment while being worked reasonably hard. In the same way I do with laptops, all desktops that come to me get a basic cleaning. Even if your unit doesn't have a current fault, please get in touch for information on a check-up of both it's hardware and software.

Upgrades

There is no hiding that as a PC gets older, it becomes increasingly obsolete. Often a machine is no longer able to cope with modern tasks, or takes an unreasonable amount of time to get the job done. Usually, some simple upgrades can get a system back up to spec for whatever you need it for. The modularity of Desktops can allow for most parts to be swapped and upgraded to improve performance. In some cases, the majority of the parts in the system can be changed, leaving a few of the old components to reduce costs. Some older platforms cannot be viably upgraded, so, I will always endeavour to present you with a range of options, allowing you to choose whatever would be best for your circumstances.

When getting in touch regarding your Desktop PC, please ensure you include; The make and model (if applicable and you can find it), the approximate age of the machine, a comprehensive description of the fault, or the service / upgrade you want carried out, and any specifications of the system you feel would be helpful.

If after your first contact I don't have all the information I need, I'll get back to you confirming any specifics before getting the job booked in.

Mobile Phones

iPhones

On most iPhone models I can carry out repairs such as:

  • Screen replacements

  • Battery replacements

  • Camera and Microphone replacements

  • Charging port cleaning and replacement.

Although these are the key areas, they are not exclusive, nor can they be done on all models. In some cases software locks, or part availability can restrict the repairs I am able to carry out. There are also some cases where a less common repair can be carried out. For these reasons I don't have a set list of repairs I carry out. I ask that customers contact me for details of the repair they want, allowing me to give a quote that is up to date with all current prices and availability. It also allows me to give honest advice on the best course for your device to suit your budget, and make it as cost effective as possible.

Androids and others

Because of the number of different makes and models available in the android market, and the various other types of handsets on sale, I don't specify any repairs that I am able to do on particular models. It would be impossible to have a constantly up to date 'price sheet' for all models and all repairs, with varying part prices.

Instead, the process I operate on is for a customer to get in touch with the device they have, and what repair they need, allowing me to check the following:

  • If I have the tooling required to complete the repair

  • If I can get the parts required for the work

  • Prices on parts

This will allow me to gather options for you, so we can come to the most cost effective solution, whether that be a repair, or replacing the device.

When getting in touch regarding your Phone, please ensure you include; The make and model, a comprehensive description of the fault, and any information about previous repairs and faults that may be beneficial.

If after your first contact I don't have all the information I need, I'll get back to you confirming any specifics before getting the job quoted and booked in.

Tablets

iPads

iPad repairs can often be much more complicated than repairs on other devices, due to how they're designed.

Because of their construction and the various models there have been, I ask that customers contact me with the fault their device has, allowing me to check the following:

  • If I have the tooling required to complete the repair

  • If the required parts are available and can be changed

  • Prices on parts.

This will allow me to quote accurately, and provide you the best option in repair, or replacement of the device.

Androids, Windows and others

Android, Windows and other tablets can vary greatly in how they're built. They also vary to a great extent with part availability, and where parts can be sourced from. In some cases parts must be sources from the manufacturers, leading to long lead times on imports.

Because of this I ask customers contact me with the fault their device has allowing me to check:

  • If I have the tooling required to complete the repair

  • The price of, and availability of parts, along with if they can be changed.

Doing the above allows me to quote accurately, providing options for repairs, replacements or other solutions.

When getting in touch regarding your Tablet, please ensure you include; The make and model, a comprehensive description of the fault, and any information about previous repairs and faults that may be beneficial.

If after your first contact I don't have all the information I need, I'll get back to you confirming any specifics before getting the job quoted and booked in.

Printers

Inkjet Printers

By design, inkjet printers prioritise being cheap and mass producible, over them lasting and being repairable. Unfortunately, for your bank balance, and the environment, they are considered disposable items, with some manufacturers selling their printers at cost, or even at a loss, making their money back through ink cartridges. However, there are some faults that can be corrected through the maintenance options in printer's menu's. These are mainly issues with the alignment of the printing on the page, or blockages on the print head that result in poor print quality.

Software problems can also arise with printers. This usually refers to how the printer connects to, and interacts with the devices you're using to create the print jobs.

It's always worth trying the maintenance options, and trying to reconfigure the software before replacing a printer. If you're having issues, get in touch and I will either guide you through the process or can visit on a call out to carry out the work for you.

Laser Printers

Laser printers are the complete opposite to inkjets in the way they are made. Although more expensive and complex, if properly maintained, a laser printer will long outlive an inkjet, and will carry much lower per-page costs. Many parts can be changed, with most laser printers having modular parts that have a replacement schedule to keep the unit working as it should. It is always advised to stick to these schedules. Even with proper maintenance, these components along with others can fail. If this happens to your machine, or it develops another fault get in touch to see if I can diagnose the fault, and recommend a part to replace, or carry out a different repair instead.

As with inkjet printers, sometimes the configuration between devices and printers can come amiss. This can often be frustrating to fix, so don't hesitate to contact me is you need some assistance.

I will always present honest options to allow you to judge what the best route is for your setup, whether that be a repair, or replacing the printer with something fresher.

When getting in touch regarding your Printer, please ensure you include; The make and model, the type of printer it is, a comprehensive description of the fault, and any information about previous faults that may be beneficial.

If after your first contact I don't have all the information I need, I'll get back to you confirming any specifics before confirming the job

Other Items

The categories above are not an exclusive list of the devices I am able to carryout maintenance and repair on. If you have something that is not listed above, please contact me to see if it is something I can help with. Specialist repairs can often be done, however as they are less common, I rarely advertise or confirm any of this sort of work ahead of time. I cannot guarantee I will be able to assist, however I will do what I can to generate a quote, and investigate options for getting your item back up and running.

When getting in touch regarding your item, please ensure you include; The make and model, what the device is, a comprehensive description of the fault, and any information about previous faults that may be beneficial.

If after your first contact I don't have all the information I need, I'll get back to you confirming any specifics before confirming the job

Collection and Delivery Options

For some customers, it may be problematic to arrange dropping off and collecting their items from me. For this reason, Collection and Delivery of devices can be arranged, either locally by myself, or further afield using a courier service.
